HIGH-DEPENDENCY UNIT (HDU)

In Healthsure Multispeciality Hospital there is super specialized High Dependency Unit (HDU) located close to the intensive care unit, where patients are cared more extensively. The High Dependency Unit is a specially staffed and equipped eight bed unit able to provide care to patients at an intermediate clinical level with expert medical and nursing care and monitoring facilities. In HDU there are more detailed observations and intervention including postoperative care and those stepping down from higher levels of care. It is appropriate for patients who have had major surgery and associated with a reduction in mortality.

People spend varying lengths of time in HDU, depending on the nature of their illness and the demands on the unit. In Healthsure Hospital patients are usually transferred from intensive care to HDU. For some of them, especially those who’d spent over a week in intensive care, transferring to HDU was a sign of progress. It meant they were improving, gradually establishing more normal eating and sleeping patterns, and a step closer to going home. Progress also made in terms of the abilities to grip, walk and communicate.
